Why take a leadership role in LED?
This is your opportunity to shape the division and our work within AECT, serve your professional community, and gain leadership experience. The Learner Engagement Division is....well....engaging! We genuinely enjoy our business meetings and are introducing membership meetings this year to provide more resources and opportunities for sharing and connecting within our community. We want you!
Which position should you run for?
LED President-Elect (Past Board member only)
This is a 3-year commitment as the President-Elect will then serve as the President for the following year, and the Past-President for the next year. The candidate for President-Elect must have served at least one year on the LED Board, making significant contributions to the Division, before they can be considered for the position.
The President-Elect shall:
- Serve as member of AECT's upcoming convention planning committee
- Oversee convention planning for LED, including: distributing call for proposals; recruiting reviewers; coordinating proposal reviews; making acceptance decisions; notifying submitters; creating sessions; and assigning facilitators
- Provide recognition for outgoing Board members
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
LED Representative to the AECT Board
This is also a 3-year commitment. The LED Rep to the AECT Board shall:
- Communicate information from LED to the AECT Board and from AECT Board to LED
- Attend and actively participate in monthly Board meetings through web conferencing and two Board meetings at the AECT convention (one before, one after)
- Attend and actively participate in Summer Leadership meetings
- Provide guidance for the AECT Board on how to improve Association processes, including those that impact the Division and those that impact broader issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
Administrative Officer
This is a 2-year commitment. The Administrative Officer shall:
- Maintain and produce documentation (e.g., division reports, plan documents, announcements, etc.)
- Maintain and update the LED By-Laws
- Develop and maintain division budget, facilitate division financial transactions, keep a record of the finances of LED, and provide an updated financial report at the Board and Member meetings
- Schedule LED Board and Member meetings, distribute prepare agendas, and record minutes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
Special Programs Officer (Graduate Student only)
This is also a 2-year commitment and is one of 2 Special Programs Officers with staggered terms to ensure continuity. One of these officers must be a graduate student. The candidate for the position that will be open in Fall 2025 must be a graduate student at the start of their term.
The Special Programs Officer shall:
- Develop programs for the Division (e.g., webinar series, video interviews, podcast, etc.), including: seeking out presenters; scheduling events; promoting and facilitating sessions; and editing and posting the recordings
- Promote member engagement, including: brainstorming and planning strategies and activities that engage current and potential members (e.g., newsletter); and at the AECT convention, representing LED in various events (e.g., kick-off session, first-timers' orientation, etc.); and developing and facilitating activities and meetings to promote the Division
- Recruit and oversee division members as part of a Special Programs Committee in order to assist with duties as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
What else should I know about the LED Board?
- LED Board members shall attend regular monthly meetings. A hybrid in-person and remote participation annual meeting will also be scheduled at the AECT convention.
- The LED members shall meet annually at least eight times. These meetings will be strategically planned by the President and Special Programs Officers to present research and practice in the form of webinars, solicit membership input on convention planning and awards, and to accommodate membership driven agendas.
- All positions may be elected to serve up to two consecutive terms. After serving two consecutive terms within the same position, they can then run for a different LED Board position.
- Nominees may be self-selected or generated by any LED member. All candidates must meet the requisite qualifications and fully commit to their responsibilities if elected.
- Newly elected board members may attend board meetings until their position is official at the AECT convention. Any outgoing officers will help train and support incoming officers until their term concludes.

We also invite you to submit your full statement and photo now, but this is not required until ballots are posted on the AECT website in January.
