Richard B. Lewis Memorial Award for Outstanding School Media and Technology

Purpose:

The AECT Richard B. Lewis Memorial Award is presented to a school or system, public or private, to recognize outstanding technology integration and media utilization programs.

Background:

The Richard B. Lewis Memorial Award was established in 1981 by ECT. Lewis was an innovative leader of audiovisual instruction and new teaching methods. Lewis initiated the audiovisual and instructional television services in 1949 at San Jose State College and was influential in establishing similar programs throughout the country. Nationally, he was most widely known as co-author of a leading basic college textbook in the educational technology field, AV Instruction: Technology, Media and Methods. He was a visiting professor at many universities and participated in numerous presentations and workshops. This award is a fitting memorial to him.

Eligibility:

All schools and systems including public school districts and private K-12 institutions in the U.S. having technology integration and media programs are eligible. Applicants should provide evidence of strong media/technology planning, support and utilization as gathered from some of the following:

  • Special studies conducted by or for the schools
  • Specific instances of good planning, integration and utilization as described by the schools or other groups
  • Documentation including references, letters, news reports, testimonials, etc.
  • Documentation regarding sufficient resources for implementing good utilization programs
  • The degree to which appropriate professional standards are met
  • Other evidence 

Review Criteria:

  • Evidence of active and effective technology programs and media use.
  • Impact of technology use in the school or system and elsewhere.
  • Meets eligibility requirements

Selection:

Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the TIL awards committee.

Nomination Due Date: June 10, 2024 

Nature of Award:

A cash award and a plaque designating the award and recipient. (The cash award amount is determined annually by the ECT Foundation.) 

Presentation:

During the AECT annual convention either at a general session and/or event sponsored by the TIL division.

Leslie Blatt Service Award

SELF-NOMINATIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED

Purpose: 

The TIL Leslie Blatt Service Award is an annual award given by the active TIL Board Members that recognizes outstanding leadership, service, mentorship, and professional practice that goes above and beyond in its scope and dedication to the TIL Division and its members. The award was created to honor Leslie Blatt in recognition of her extraordinary leadership and service to the TIL Division and AECT.

Eligibility:

  • The nominee must be an active member of TIL and of AECT.
  • The award may be given more than once to the same person.

 

Review Criteria:

  • Evidence of contributions to the TIL division.
  • Quality of support from additional references for the nomination.

 

Selection:

Nominations are coordinated and reviewed by the TIL Board under the direction of the current Past-President. The selection of the awardee will require a unanimous, anonymous vote by the current board members.
