The Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) Department at the University of West Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to support undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in instructional design, learning technologies, and performance improvement.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service with emphasis on applied instructional design, ethical AI integration, emerging technologies, and data-informed performance improvement across education, workforce, military, government, or industry contexts. Salary is commensurate with experience.

• Teaching & Curriculum Development: Teach undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses in instructional design, learning technologies, performance improvement, research methods, or related areas; contribute to curriculum alignment and continuous improvement; integrate ethical/applied AI; support capstones, internships, simulations, and scenario-based instruction; provide timely feedback and mentorship.
• Research & Scholarly Activity: Develop a scholarly agenda aligned with instructional design, AI in learning, performance improvement, learning sciences, workforce development, or related fields; engage in applied/practice-based research with partners; seek external funding (e.g., DoD, NSF, workforce/industry grants); disseminate through publications and presentations.
• Student Mentoring & Advising: Advise undergraduate and graduate students; serve on and progressively chair doctoral dissertation committees; support professional development, portfolios, and career pathways.
• Service & Engagement: Participate in department/school/university service; contribute to assessment, accreditation, and curriculum mapping; support workforce/military/community partnerships; collaborate across the School of Education and university.

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Performance Technology, Instructional Technology, or closely related field by start date
• Evidence of effective teaching or strong teaching potential at the postsecondary level
• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and applied practice
• Demonstrated or emerging scholarly agenda appropriate for a tenure-track appointment
• Ability to integrate technology and/or AI into teaching, research, or applied projects
• Experience with data collection, learning analytics, evaluation, improvement science, change management, or performance improvement

• Experience with AI integration in instructional design, performance improvement, or research
• Expertise in emerging technologies, learning experience design (LxD/UX), simulations, or XR
• Familiarity with workforce, military, government, healthcare, or industry training contexts
• Experience mentoring graduate or doctoral students
• Interest in applied research, external funding, and collaborative partnerships

As the chief leader for Radford Online, this role provides visionary and operational oversight for the development, integration, and management of all online programs under Radford's single service model.

Reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice President ensures delivery of high-quality, accessible, and innovative online, distance, and hybrid programs aligned with the university’s mission and strategic goals.

• Lead the strategic vision and implementation of online learning initiatives.
• Oversee Radford Online’s program portfolio and expansion strategies.
• Collaborate across academic and administrative units to support curriculum innovation.
• Ensure quality assurance for online and hybrid programs.
• Build partnerships with faculty, enrollment management, technology services, and vendors.
• Champion faculty development, student support, marketing, and financial sustainability.
• Monitor accreditation, compliance, and regulatory standards.
• Serve as academic lead on vendor partnerships and program administration.

• Master’s degree required (doctorate preferred) in education, instructional technology, higher education leadership, or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive experience in online learning or higher education administration.
• Experience launching and managing online academic programs.
• Knowledge of instructional design, ed tech, and financial modeling.
• Strong leadership, project management, and analytical skills.
• Preferred: Experience building fully online undergraduate programs.
